Ground Zero Mosque

This kind of stuff really saddens me to see the kind of fear and hatred that is being spread. To still associate what happened on 9/11 to all of Islam is just plain near sighted and ignorant. I say that we allow the masjid (or mosque) to open and then we open a church right next to it and start the conversation and dialogue through peacemaking initiatives. That would seem more productive and more like Jesus.

Blessed are the peacemakers.

Is it legal...yes. Is it insensitive....yes. There have always been two Americas. The one that says "give us your tired, your poor your huddled masses" and the one that says, "Now adopt our way of life...our Judeo-christian culture......our language...our traditions...etc".

This is just another example of the two Americas clashing. Yes, the govt and the people shouldn't ban the cultural center from being placed.....but equally, Americans should not be looked upon as guilty if we are uneasy about it. True, Islam did not destroy the towers...but the towers were destroyed by Muslims which makes this very sticky.

Imagine if a group of Christians blew up a icon of Muslim culture. Years down the road we want to put a church just down the street. ?

This reminds me of the Catholic church that was put up near Auschwitz in which people left tons of crosses and other things at the gates with good intentions. Sometimes the best way to honor the dead and bridge relations is to respect the sensitivity regardless of legality.

As far as I can tell, this whole "Cultural Center" will create more division and hatred between Muslims & Americans due to the location and insensitivity to the NYC populace. It seems to me that this Imman cares nothing for improving relations, but instead is doing it because "he can".

They are doing a great disservice to any hope for better relations between Muslims and Americans. They are increasing the tension and not remedying anything.....and honestly, I think that is much of the point after you read this imman's comments.

If they were truly hoping to bridge relations, I would have to believe they would donate a large portion of these funds to the victims of 9/11 and to move their center out of the immediate area wherein they cost host such talks.

I totally disagree with you...the reason is pretty simple. Would you have an issue with a church being built near the Oklahoma City Federal Building where a "Christian" blew up the building named Timothy McVeigh?

We're not fighting Islam and those weren't Muslims..they were terrorists and those are who we are fighting against.

If a terror org wanted to build anywhere, I would have issue.

And you think the Catholic Church's setting crosses all over Auschwitz was fine too?
